ILHB raises fees for Public Library Access Cards (PLAC)

Notice to PLAC holders

The Public Library Access Card (PLAC) is the name for the statewide library card enacted by the Indiana General Assembly in 1993 (Indiana Code 4-23-7.1-5.1). The PLAC program allows an individual to borrow materials directly from any public library in Indiana . An individual who holds a valid public library card may obtain a PLAC. The Indiana State Library collects PLAC revenue and places it in a designated fund account for the PLAC program. After the calendar year, the money plus interest is distributed back to libraries on the basis of net loans.

The Indiana Library & Historical Board (ILHB) voted unanimously on December 11, 2009 to raise the cost of the Public Library Access Card (PLAC) from $30 to $50 effective January 1, 2010. This action was made to offset the cost of lost revenues by the program.

PLAC cards will be available for $30 through the end of the year, so if you are nearing your time to renew, you might want to consider doing so by December 31. Farmland Public Library will be closed for several days over the holiday. Our remaining business days for 2009 are:
Thursday, December 17 (1pm-7pm)
Saturday, December 19 (9am-1pm)
Monday, December 21 (9am-1pm)
Monday, December 28 (9am-1pm)
Tuesday, December 29 (1pm-7pm)
Thursday, December 31 (1pm-7pm)

For more information about PLAC, visit www.library.in.gov/plac.htm.
