Summer Reading Programs Wish List

Several inquiries have been received by the library about how to help out with the summer reading program, so a wish list has been put together. Many items are small, and might even be things collecting dust in your house, others require the gift of time, and some are sponsorships of library books that would add enrich the reading program. Here are some suggestions:

Individually wrapped snacks to be used for refreshments during summer reading programs

Sealed containers of juice or fruit drinks that do not require constant refrigeration or juice boxes to be used for refreshments during summer reading programs

Incentive or prizes for summer reading participants – small books, gift cards, bug-themed items

Bright blue and bright green foil wrapping paper

Gas gift cards, ($5 or $10) to defray the cost of the commute for reading leader volunteers

24 Styrofoam balls (2 ½ to 3 inches in diameter)

Clear or light color cellophane (the crinkly kind)

Dark colored ¾ to 1 inch wide tape (such as electrician’s tape)

Library Cards Are Available!

Residents of Farmland:

If your reside within the taxable Farmland city limits, you may apply for a free library card at any time!


Residents of Stoney Creek, Union and Green Townships:

If you reside in Stoney Creek, Union, or Green Townships of Randolph County, your township has contracted with Farmland Public Library to provide a limited number of free library cards for your use. Currently, there are free cards available for each of these townships.


Residents of Monroe Township:

Your township provides free cards for all its residents.


How to get your card:

To apply for a library card, you will need to show a proof of residence. The library will accept a driver’s license or state issued ID, utility bills, or anything that displays your current address. The library is required to make and keep a photocopy of this proof. You will also be asked to review and agree to abide by the rules of the library. A library card may be issued for each person in the residence over age five.


Non-Resident Cards for patrons residing outside our service area:

A non-resident fee of $27.00 annually is required for families who wish to use the Farmland Public Library but do not reside within its established service area. Your library card will entitle you to the same privileges as all other card holders.


Indiana Public Library Access Cards (PLAC Cards):

PLAC cards are statewide library cards that allow individuals to borrow materials directly from ANY Public Library within the state of Indiana! They are available for $30.00 per year.

Your Library Needs You!

The Friends of the Farmland Library need a few more volunteers to help with the Book Sale during the Farmland Town Rummage Sale! Help is needed for set up on Thursday May 15 and for sales help on Friday May 16 and Saturday May 17!

We need helpers to set up the sale tables on Thursday evening from 6 to 7 pm and to run the tables on Friday from 10 am to 2 pm or on Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm. You can choose to help for as little as one hour or for as many hours as you want!
